Sea Pearls are soft, dense and durable natural sea sponges that absorb menstrual flow and have been used by women around the world for over 40 years.
Reusable and completely natural, Jade & Pearl Sea Sponges are a sustainable alternative to disposable tampons. They are free from chemicals, bleach, chlorine, fragrance, dyes and synthetic materials.
Each Sea Pearl is washed, inspected, trimmed and packaged by Jade & Pearl’s expert sponge squad to ensure high quality. The sponges can be carefully trimmed and sculpted to suit your anatomy, comfort and flow. Available options accommodate light, moderate and heavy flow, with multi-size packs also available. If you are unsure which option to choose, select the larger size, as sea sponges can be trimmed.
Harvested from the Mediterranean Sea, these sponges are cut by hand by divers who leave the base intact so the sponge can regrow. Sponges must be at least 12.5cm when harvested to help prevent excessive harvesting, and harvesting is strictly prohibited in protected marine sanctuaries and coral reefs.
Sea Pearls are reusable for up to 3–6 months when properly cared for.
Use
- Wet the sponge.
- Gently insert the sea sponge into the vagina.
- Remove after 3–4 hours, or as often as required for heavier flow.
- Rinse and repeat.

Sponge Care
Sponges can be delicate, so take care when cleaning and using them.
Use a natural chemical-free soap, or soak for 5–10 minutes in warm water with one of the following:
- 2–3 drops tea tree oil
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 1 tbsp baking soda, which helps restore volume and density
- 1 tsp hydrogen peroxide, which helps eliminate discolouration
Rinse the sponge and squeeze out excess water. Do not boil your sponge, as this will shrink and toughen it. Do not use harsh soaps or chemicals, or soak the sponge longer than recommended, as this may cause deterioration.
How often should sponges be cleaned?
- Prior to first use
- Once daily or every other day
- If the sponge develops an unpleasant odour
- Prior to storing
Ensure the sponge is completely dry before storing.
How to trim a sponge
Trim the sponge around the edges with scissors, a little at a time, until you reach the desired shape. Sponges are easiest to trim when dry. Do not cut sea sponges in half or rip loose pieces; carefully trim ragged areas to extend the sponge’s lifetime.
